Hans Zender Akademie

Call for Applications: New Master Course of the International Ensemble Modern Academy

Hans Zender was not only a creative and profoundly reflective spirit, but also the initiator of many projects and ventures. Thus, he was also profoundly interested in exchange with subsequent generations of artists. Accordingly, the new ›Hans Zender Academy‹ in Meersburg on Lake Constance in November 2021 will be a one-week master course for advanced instrumental students, who will have the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of individual Ensemble Modern members and additional guest instructors. The course culminates in the ›Meersburger KonzertGespräche‹, the Meersburg Concert Conversations, which were launched in 2018 when Hans Zender was still alive. Support from the city of Meersburg, the Hans and Gertrud Zender Foundation and the Ensemble Modern Board of Patrons will make it possible to transfer practical musical knowledge and experience to another generation, helping to maintain contemporary repertoire in all its diversity and ensuring that it continues to be performed adequately in the future. The main focus of the course is on Hans Zender’s ›Cabaret Voltaire‹ (2001/02), a work inspired by Dadaism, alongside chamber music by Giacinto Scelsi, Erwin Schulhoff, Paul Hindemith, Nikolaus Brass, Arnold Schoenberg and others. Docents include Ensemble Modern members, the singer Salome Kammer and the composer Nikolaus Brass.

The call is inviting applications from Instrumentalists (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello) Singers (Female Voices) and Composer.
