Pau Coso Caballero, flute
Pau Coso Caballero, born in Valencia in 2002, began playing the flute at the age of four. Since October 2025, he has been working towards his master’s degree under Prof. Wally Hase at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). Prior to that he studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and at the Fundación Barenboim-Said in Sevilla.
He gained experience as an orchestra musician through temporary positions at the Volksoper in Vienna, as a member of JONDE (the Spanish National Youth Orchestra), and at the 2026 Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic, among others. He has performed under conductors such as Marin Alsop, Martin Rajna and Oksana Lyniv at festivals including the Salzburg Festival and Young Euro Classic in Berlin.
He was awarded a second prize in the mdw’s 2026 Leonard Bernstein Institute competition. In November 2026 he will play the Flute Concertino by Cécile Chaminade with the Webern Symphony Orchestra in a concert at Schönbrunn Palace, broadcast by Austrian national public broadcaster ORF.
New Music is another of his artistic focuses. Through his collaboration with Prof. Susanne Blumenthal and Prof. David Smeyers, he had the opportunity to perform at the Acht Brücken Festival and to participate in a recording for the Forum Neuer Musik, organised by German public radio station Deutschlandfunk. As a co-founder of Trío Falla, he promotes collaborative projects of young composers and initiates new pieces for the trio. Trío Falla’s first CD will be released by Da Vinci Classics in early 2027.
Pau Coso Caballero is a fellow of the Kunststiftung NRW.
