Lena Yeeun, conductor
Lena Yeeun Oh is a Korean conductor based in Germany. She completed her master’s degree in orchestral conducting at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) under Prof. Christoph Altstaedt and Prof. Johannes Schlaefli. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Dresden University of Music (HfM) under Prof. Ekkehard Klemm and previously studied church music with a focus on composition in Seoul.
A central focus of her work is contemporary music. At the Darmstadt Summer Courses, she conducted Luciano Berio’s ›Différences‹. She also participated in the IYCA (International Young Composer/Conductor Academy), working with the Ensemble intercontemporain under the direction of Oscar Jockel. Furthermore, at the TIMF (Tongyeong International Music Festival) Academy, she collaborated with Ensemble Modern and the TIMF Ensemble under Roland Kluttig.
Her opera experience includes serving as assistant conductor for Clemens Flick (›L’incoronazione di Poppea‹, Staatstheater Darmstadt), Daniel J. Mayr (BaseCamp Project, Beethoven Orchester Bonn), Jeremy Bines (›Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny‹, Deutsche Oper Berlin), and Hans-Peter Preu (›Werther‹, ›Der Freischütz‹, Landesbühnen Sachsen).
She has conducted numerous orchestras, including the Darmstadt State Orchestra, Mainz State Philharmonic Orchestra, North West German Philharmonic, Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, and Robert Schumann Philharmonie Chemnitz.
Her studies have been supported by the Deutschlandstipendium and the Ad Infinitum Foundation.
