Jung In Kim, cello
Jung In Kim, born in 1997 in South Korea, is a cellist specialising in contemporary music. She studied classical cello with Prof. Gregor Horsch at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, where she earned her master’s degree. She subsequently specialised in New Music with Prof. Barbara Maurer at the Folkwang Universität der Künste.
She has been active in contemporary music projects since 2021. For several years, she was a member of the European Workshop for Contemporary Music, performing at the Warsaw Autumn Festival and the festival Eight Brides/Music for Cologne. She gained further experience through the Darmstadt Summer Courses and the Studio Musikfabrik ensemble. At the Baden-Württemberg Ensemble Academy Freiburg, she received a scholarship for the Contemporary Chamber Music course. She also took part in the TIMF Academy of the Tongyeong International Music Foundation.
She has performed at Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Kunst-Station Sankt Peter Köln, Bangkok Kunsthalle and the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw. Other engagements include Festival NOW! in Essen, where she performed as part of ›Elements – Lachenmann zum 90.‹ at the Museum Folkwang. International projects have taken her to Thailand, Singapore, Portugal, Spain and Italy. She also took part in the GNMR Residency Concert of the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr.
Based in Essen, Germany, she is a member of Trio S!GNALE, a music ensemble that performs works by contemporary composers and realises new works in collaboration with them. Her artistic interests lie in the connection between classical performance tradition and contemporary approaches to sound, particularly new timbres and playing techniques.
