Javier Hombría Hernandez, piano

Javier Hombría is a pianist and composer from Zaragoza, Spain. He graduated with a degree in classical piano from Musikene (San Sebastián) under Marta Zabaleta and completed a master’s degree with David Kuyken at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.

He has received prizes including second prize in the Antón García Abril International Piano Competition, and first prizes at the Andoain Piano Competition and the Alcañiz Chamber Music Competition. He has performed as a soloist with the KC Contemporary Ensemble Academy, Musikene Sinfonietta and the Symphony Orchestra of the CPMZ, and has worked as a pianist with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Spanish National Youth Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra of Navarra.

His engagement with contemporary music began at Musikene through ensemble projects with conductor Arturo Tamayo and collaborations with composers including Gabriel Erkoreka, Isabel Urrutia and Zuriñe Fernández Gerenabarrena. In 2023, he participated in the world premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’s ›11,000 Saiten‹, alongside 50 pianists and the Mahler Academy Orchestra.

He was selected for the KC Contemporary Ensemble Academy for two years, collaborating with Het Muziek and Ensemble Klang and premiering numerous works. In 2026, he joined the Lucerne Festival Academy and performed with its Contemporary Orchestra. He has received lessons from performers in contemporary music such as Dimitri Vassilakis, Joonas Ahonen, Florian Hölscher and Talvi Hunt. Javier is also active as a composer and has experience as an interdisciplinary creator.

Javier Hombría is a fellow of the GVL – the German Organisation for the Management of Neighbouring Rights.
