Hannah Wendorf, viola
Hannah Wendorf (they/she) was born in Wisconsin, USA, in 2002 and began their musical studies at the age of nine. A violist specializing in contemporary music, they especially value the creativity of living composers and believe that sharing contemporary works with diverse audiences is vital to the present and future of classical music. In 2026, Hannah was awarded a fellowship as a member of the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, which performed 28 works (including 12 premieres) over the course of two months of summer study. Additionally, they have performed with contemporary ensembles such as New Century Chamber Orchestra, Kronos Quartet, Post, and the Indiana University New Music Ensemble.
A passionate chamber musician, Hannah is active in string quartets and small ensembles. In 2022, they were a finalist in the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition as a member of the Lora Quartet, and they recently took part in the Advanced Quartet Seminar led by the Pacifica Quartet at Indiana University. Also an experienced orchestra musician, they were the assistant principal viola of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra for the 2025/26 season. Across various ensembles, they have performed with a variety of artists including Steve Mackey, Lara Downes, Alexi Kenney, Lauryn Hill, Sandeep Das, Conrad Tao, and Steven Osgood.
Hannah holds degrees in viola performance from Indiana University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where they studied with Atar Arad and Dimitri Murrath, respectively.
