Suzune Masumoto, violin

Suzune Masumoto was born in Tokyo, Japan and received her first violin lessons at the age of four. After studying at the Toho Gakuen Music High School and the Toho Gakuen School of Music, she is currently pursuing her studies at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in the class of Prof. Erik Schumann. She also takes private lessons with Prof. Kirill Troussov. She has gained a solid musical foundation through her engagement with the classical repertoire and her experience as an academy member of the MDR Symphony Orchestra. She was a recipient of the Deutschlandstipendium and, with a full scholarship from Echo Arts Munich, participated in a masterclass with Prof. Christoph Poppen. With a full scholarship from the Institute for Contemporary Music (HfMDK Frankfurt), she also took part in the Violin Studio of the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. She has also attended numerous masterclasses in Japan and abroad. In 2025, she was a member of the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra. Further artistic impulses came through collaborations with composers and participating in world premieres. She has also attended masterclasses and took special lessons with renowned musicians including Prof. Reiko Watanabe, Prof. Mark Gothoni, and Prof. Svetlin Roussev. She has received several prizes at competitions in Japan, including second prizes at the Cecilia International Music Competition and at the Junior Classical Music Competition. Her artistic interests span both the classical repertoire and contemporary music, with a particular focus on exploring the connections between these traditions and discovering new sonic possibilities.

Suzune Masumoto is a fellow of the GVL – the German Organisation for the Management of Neighbouring Rights.
