Paul Rodríguez Flys, violin
Paul Rodríguez Flys, born in Madrid, Spain (1999), began his music studies at the age of six. He studied violin at the Adolfo Salazar Pre-College Conservatory, where he also discovered his passion for composing. During this early period, he received various awards both as a violinist and as a composer. His violin quartet also won competitions and was performed in various venues, including museums and concert halls.
He holds university degrees in violin and and composition/music theory from the Cologne University of Music and Dance (2023 and 2025, respectively). Encouraged by Prof. Johannes Schild, he specialized his music theory studies in composition. He also completed a violin master‘s degree in Düsseldorf with Aylen Pritchin in 2025.
As a violinist, he has taken part in projects and festivals where he worked with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann and Eric Tanguy and ensembles such as Cuarteto Quiroga and Ensemble Écoute. He has performed in venues such as Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal, Tonhalle Düsseldorf and STALAG VIII A in Zgorzelec. As a chamber musician or soloist, he recently has focused on contemporary music.
His compositional work is oriented towards instrumental chamber music. He has received commissions from ensembles like the Duo Micans, who premiered his violin duo in 2023. In 2024, his Sonata solo for violin was performed as a compulsory piece by the participants of the International Max Rostal Competition in Berlin. In 2025, he won a competition held at the Cologne University of Music and Dance for his orchestral work ›Three pieces for orchestra‹, which will be premiered in November, 2025 at the Historische Stadthalle in Wuppertal celebrating the university's 100th anniversary.
