Emmett Jackson, Doublebass
Emmett Jackson, born 1996, comes to Frankfurt by way of Chicago, USA. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University studying under Mark Urness, and a master’s from Northwestern University with Andrew Raciti. While studying at Northwestern, he was also a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training program of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 2021, Emmett Jackson was a semi-finalist in the International Society of Bassists Orchestra competition. Other mentors have included Ian Hallas, Alex Hanna, and Richard Davis. For three summers, Emmett Jackson attended the Lucerne Festival Academy, premiering works by Thomas Adès, Rebecca Saunders and playing under conductors such as Enno Poppe, Susanna Mälkki, Sylvain Cambreling, Tyshawn Sorey, and Lin Liao. Other summer festivals include Orford Musique, Le Domaine Forget, and Marrowstone Music Festival. Emmett Jackson often performs with the Grossman Ensemble, the Ensemble in Residence at the University of Chicago, and has premiered and recorded many works by UChicago composers including Justin Weiss, Benjamin Martin, Baldwin Giang, and others. Additionally, Emmett Jackson has recorded with Chicago-based Ensemble Dal Niente. In addition to contemporary music, Emmett Jackson is also a seasoned orchestral musician. He holds the assistant principal bass chair of the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, has substituted across the region with the Madison, Quad Cities, Illinois, and Dubuque Symphony Orchestras, among others. Emmett Jackson performs on a double bass made in 2019 by Arnold Schnitzer, and a bow made by Canadian bow maker Bernard Walke.
