Miho Kawai, Viola
Miho Kawai (*1993) was born in Hiroshima, Japan. She started playing the violin at age 5; at the age of 16, she found her purpose in life: the viola. Following her studies at Toho Gakuen University of Music in Tokyo, she studied viola with Nobuko Imai and Wenting Kang as well as chamber music with Heime Müller at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. She was awarded the Sobresaliente Prize there. In 2017, she moved to Frankfurt am Main to continue her studies with Ingrid Zur at HfMDK Frankfurt, where she completed her master’s degree in 2020. From 2019 to 2021, she enjoyed playing opera with a temporary contract at the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester. She is an invited guest solo violist of the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin. As a soloist and chamber musician, she is dedicated to collaborative projects. She has worked with choirs such as Frankfurter Kammerchor, Kammerchor Rhein-Main and contemporary dance companies such as WestDeutsches Tanztheater Düsseldorf. Since 2019 she plays a viola made by Ritz Iwata in Amsterdam.
