Michael Martinez, Trombone
Michael Martinez was born in the United States and began playing trombone under the direction of his father, Alex Martinez. From 2011-2015, Michael Martinez attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in Texas. He received his Master’s degree from Texas State University in 2017 and his Doctorate degree from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) in 2022. Michael Martinez has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Arizona Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. He also has had success at competitions, winning the 2018 American Trombone Workshop Division III Tenor Trombone Solo Competition. His teachers include Mark Kellogg, Martin McCain, and Eileen Meyer. Michael Martinez has enjoyed performing and developing his interest in contemporary music. He performed a solo recital of contemporary music at the International Trombone Festival this past July, and he is in the process of commissioning several works for solo trombone. He has performed with the ensembles Musica Nova and Ossia of the Eastman School of Music, as well as Klangspuren IEMA. He has also collaborated with conductors and composers including Rupert Huber, Johannes Kalitzke, Brad Lubman, Mark Andre, and George Lewis.
