She gathered her first New Music experiences in the State New Music Youth Ensemble in Thuringia, which works closely with the composers’ association Via Nova e.V. in Weimar. Since then, she has played in numerous ensembles, giving concerts at the Beijing Modern Music Festival in China, the Warsaw Autumn Festival, the Lucerne Festival and the Festival de La Habana de Música Contemporánea in Cuba, among others. In 2021 she performs with the Ulysses Ensemble at IRCAM Manifeste in Paris, at the Fondation Royaumont and the festival Mixtur in Barcelona. Rebecca Blau received her first flute lessons at the music school in Suhl before continuing her education in the special music class of the Rutheneum in Gera. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Robert Schumann Academy of Music in Düsseldorf. In 2017/18 an Erasmus grant allowed her to study at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and at the Pôle d’Enseignement Supérieur Bordeaux Aquitaine. Since February 2020 she has studied for a Master’s degree in classical performance with Pirmin Grehl at the Lucerne Music Academy, with a special focus on interpretation of contemporary music. Rebecca Blau is also interested in politics and socio-cultural issues in society. In order to effect change as a musician, she founded the project »Musicians for Solidarity« with other musicians in 2020, aiming to address taboo subjects, foster empowerment and deliver critical impulses within the music scene.
