Zacharias Faßhauer, Double Bass
Double bass player Zacharias Faßhauer, born 1995 in Cologne (Germany) into a family of visual artists, has had a deep connection with abstract, contemporary aesthetics from an early age. At the age of nine he received his first double bass lessons; at the age of 14 he played his first concerts within the thriving free improvisation scene in Cologne and was part of the orchestras Kölner Orchester Gesellschaft and the State Youth Orchestra of Nordrhein-Westfalen. In 2013 Zacharias Faßhauer began his double bass studies with Detmar Kurig at the Robert Schumann Academy of Music in Düsseldorf and continued his studies from 2015 at the Trossingen Music Academy, graduating in 2018. Since then, Zacharias Faßhauer has been completing a master's programme in new music for double bass in Trossingen, which he is expected to complete in September 2020. He has been an active participant in master classes such as the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, the International Ensemble Modern Academy (Klangspuren Schwaz) and the Impuls Festival in Graz, studying with Uli Fussenegger and Dario Calderone. Furthermore, he has given concerts as a soloist and as part of many different ensembles ranging from duos to large ensembles at festivals such as the Donaueschingen New Music Days, the European Workshop for Contemporary Music, the Spring Festival in The Hague, the Klangzeit Festival in Münster or the Map & Fold Festival in Tübingen. Zacharias Faßhauer also performs his own works: his pieces often concentrate on the interface of visual and acoustic arts and frequently include live electronics and dance.
