Jaume Darbra Fa, Flute
Electroacoustic performer and visual artist Jaume Darbra Fa (b. Catalonia 1993) is active internationally in the field of contemporary music, sound art and visual arts. Engagements have taken him all over Europe and Asia, performing at the most important institutions, venues and festivals such as Wien Modern, Snape Maltings, IRCAM, Impuls, Manifeste, the Lucerne Festival, the Takefu International Music Festival and Warsaw Autumn.
Dedicated performer of contemporary music, he has worked closely with composers such as George Benjamin, Sofia Gubaidulina, Rebecca Saunders, Trevor Wishart and Colin Matthews, and performed with several contemporary music ensembles, most recently as the soloist for the world premiere of a work by Stefano Gervasoni with the Ulysses Ensemble and Ensemble Intercontemporain under the baton of Matthias Pintscher.
Born in Linyola, Catalonia, Jaume Darbra Fa began playing the flute at the age of ten, having previously played the piano for four years. He studied in Barcelona at the Conservatori del Liceu with Júlia Gàllego and in Rome at the academy of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under the supervision of Andrea Oliva.
Later on, he pursued a master’s degree in Live Electronics at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the tutelage of Jos Zwaanenburg, Jorge Isaac, Hidde de Jong, Frank Baldé, Marcel Wierckx, completing the specialization and programme ›Contemporary Music through Non Western Techniques‹ as a student of Rafael Reina.
Jaume Darbra Fa is committed to contributing to solutions for global issues and promoting values such as gender equality. He recently co-founded the Lilith Ensemble, the first ensemble in the world which only performs compositions written by females.
