Thibaut Surugue, Piano
French pianist Thibaut Surugue possesses a demanding and eclectic repertoire, with many contemporary, modern and lesser known works, but also masterworks from the classical and romantic eras. Thibaut Surugue received his bachelor’s degree in Paris in the studio of Hortense Cartier-Bresson. He also received his bachelor in musicology from the university Paris La Sorbonne and several diplomas in music theory. He completed his musical education by studies with numerous other artists, such as Aldo Ciccolini, Éric Heidsieck, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, Markus Tomas, Henri Barda, Ventsislav Yankoff, Emile Naoumoff and Jean-Paul Sevilla. After one year at the Leipzig Music Academy with Markus Tomas, and after having earned his master’s and performance degrees with great distinction at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels in the studio of Jan Michiels, Thibaut Surugue graduated with highest honours and a master's degree in New Piano Music, having studied with Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Cologne (Germany). He was winner of the City of Limoges Prize and of several other international competitions, including: Île de France with the Jury’s Special Grand Prize; Brest with the 1st Special Liszt Prize; Teresa Llacuna with the third Prize; and Fondation Francis et Mica Salabert and Découverte CFRPM Prizes. He performs regularly at prestigious venues such as the Grand Palais in Paris, Flagey in Brussels, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Liège, and Bach Society Houston. He has been invited as a soloist by the Symphonic Orchestras of Boulogne-Billancourt and Pilsen Conservatories, by the Contemporary Music Ensemble of the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, and by the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides. Thibaut Surugue takes part in the creation and the interpretation of many contemporary works, playing notably with the Ensemble Acouphène and the Ensemble 2e2m, and more recently in cooperation with La Monnaie / De Munt. In 2016, he released his first solo album with works by Debussy, Haydn and Bartók.
