Tamon Yashima, Oboe
Born in Germany, the oboist and composer Tamon Yashima is currently a member of the new music ensembles S201 and Consord. His work ›geklirre und geschepper‹ was performed by the International Ensemble Modern Academy at the 2019 Witten Days of New Chamber Music. He also received a commission from the Now! Festival in Essen. At the early age of seven, Tamon Yashima won his first award at the AVW Piano Composer Cup. This was followed by several prizes at the German Composition Competition, and, as an oboist, a second prize at the 4th John Cage Competition for the Interpretation of Contemporary Music and the Rotary scholarship ›composer in residence‹ at the Orgelwelten Ratingen. As an oboist, he was an active participant in master courses such as the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music with Peter Veale (Ensemble Musikfabrik) and the International Ensemble Modern Academy (Klangspuren Schwaz) under the baton of Jonathan Stockhammer, and also in courses given by Christian Hommel (Ensemble Modern), Heike Steinbrecher, Christian Wetzel and Gundel Jannemann-Fischer. Tamon Yashima studied oboe with Michael Niesemann at the Folkwang University of the Arts and with Matthias Bäcker at the Music Academy Franz Liszt in Weimar. He currently studies instrumental and electronic composition with Michal Steinke and Michael Edwards. He received his first composition lessons from Benjamin Lang and Gordon Williamson at the Hanover Music Academy.
