Marc Hajjar, Conductor
Having reached the semi-finals at the 54th Besançon Competition, Marc Hajjar is a young conductor who distinguishes himself by his atypical double path, scientific and musical. After having finished his studies as a violinist, graduated from his Masters in Engineering (Ecole Centrale), he started studying conducting with Jean-Sébastien Béreau in Lille. Still working outside music, Marc Hajjar expressed the wish to dedicate his time to music and conducting. He participated in the Järvi Academy before being accepted in 2013 at the Royal Academy of Music, where his teachers were Colin Metters, Sian Edwards, Martyn Brabbins and David Zinman.
Driven by his interest in varied genres and repertoires, Marc Hajjar is also co-founder with Victor Jacob of the two-conductors-led Ensemble Nouvelles Portées, whose innovative concerts are now planned in France and abroad. Besides, he is involved in youth orchestras through the DEMOS project (Philharmonie de Paris). Through these projects, Marc Hajjar combines his skilled entrepreneur profile with his artistic ambitions.
Marc Hajjar is invited to conduct every kind of repertoire with orchestras such as the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Victor Hugo, the SinfonieOrchester Basel, and to participate in the Festival d’Aix. Fully involved in new music, he worked with Matthias Pintscher and Péter Eötvös in Budapest, is principal conductor of the Orchestre de Flûtes Français (Pierre-Yves Artaud), works with several European festivals and ensembles, and collaborates in 2019-2020 with the Ensemble Modern as selected participant of IEMA.
