Corné Roos, Composer
Corné Roos (b. 1989 in Amsterdam) obtained a master degree in composition in 2015 at the Academy of Music and Dance in Cologne with Markus Hechtle, after finishing his bachelor studies with Yannis Kyriakides, Calliope Tsoupaki and Gilius van Bergeijk at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. During his bachelor studies, he had the chance to write for Ensemble Modelo62 and Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, as well as student ensembles and created concerts for the experimental group The Hague All Stars, with the highlight being a concerto for 20 harmoniums. During his master studies, Corné Roos obtained commissions from The Gambling Ensemble and The Brendan Faegre Edge Ensemble and was part of the 2014 Composer Collider with Ensemble Musikfabrik. His first orchestral composition was performed during the 2015 Acht Brücken festival. Furthermore, he has been active as a performer on the bass (electric and acoustic double bass), being part of groups for free improvisation and a collective of musicians/composers, Goedlaak Music Collective. His latest commissions have been for Trio Abstrakt and the Cembaless Ensemble. His work ›Stilzwijgen van het Mechaniek‹ for giant barrel organ has been published on CD. Roos’ work has been characterized as crystal-clear, insisting and introvert. He has performed, or has had his works performed in the Netherlands, in Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Serbia and Italy. He currently resides in Cologne, Germany.
