Mishi Stern, Violin
Mishi Stern grew up in the Bega Valley in rural New South Wales, Australia, and began his violin studies there aged 8. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium High School with Goetz Richter and completed his undergraduate with Alice Waten, receiving the Corrine D’Hage String Scholarship. Mishi Stern has led the Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble and been invited to perform with the Australian contemporary music group Ensemble Offspring. He has participated in the Master Course Klangspuren Schwaz Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, working with composer Sofia Gubaidulina. In 2018 he was a member of the Ulysses Ensemble, working with Helmut Lachenmann, Beat Furrer and Ensemble Intercontemporain, among others.
In the traditional sphere, Mishi Stern has received coaching and master classes from Eberhard Feltz, Wayne Foster Smith, the Amaryllis Quartet, Dene Olding, Andrew Haveron, Rainer Kuchl, Rainer Schmidt, Anke Schitttenhelm, and Barbara Doll. Always interested in collaborating and creating, he has toured Australia with the rapper Samuel Dobson, recorded with electronic artist Anatole, and performed with tabla player Bobby Singh and Aneesh Pradhan, one of the leading musicians of Hindustani classical music. Mishi Stern plays a 2015 violin by the Cremonese luthier Roberto Cavagnoli.
