Dominique Chabot, Double bass
Dominique Chabot began playing the double bass at the age of twelve, having previously played the violin for four years. During her final year of secondary school, she attended the Foundation Course at the Conservatory of Tilburg, going on to study in London and Berlin. She recently completed her Master’s degree at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, where she studied under the tutelage of Niek de Groot and Olivier Thierry.
From a young age, Dominique Chabot has participated in international master classes and had the opportunity to study with prominent bass players such as Joel Quarrington, Kevin Rundell, Chi-chi Nwanoku, Matthew McDonald, Janne Saksala and Rick Stotijn. She has also taken part in several summer programs, such as the Mahler Academy in Bolzano and the European Workshops for Contemporary Music.
Her orchestral experience ranges from national youth orchestras to internationally acclaimed orchestras like the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Duisburg Philharmonic and the Munich Radio Orchestra, by which she was invited to join its ORFF Academy in Andechs. She has participated in and organized concert tours and projects that have travelled around Europe as well as internationally, notably to Turkey, Saint Petersburg, Israel and Palestine.
Dominique Chabot is committed to contributing to solutions for global issues and promoting values such as equality and social justice through her work as a performing musician. She participates in and organizes concerts in refugee shelters in Essen. She also sets up projects in conflict areas, primarily in the Middle East, to share music while also working to bring awareness to the current situation. Dominique Chabot currently is a member of the European Cultural Parliament – Future Generation and the Turn Club.
