Hugo Queirós is a Portuguese clarinet and bass clarinet freelancer, who has mostly been dedicating his time to contemporary music and to working with young composers in the past few years. He holds a Bachelor and a Master Degree in clarinet from ESMAE (Porto, Portugal), where he studied with Nuno Pinto. Since September 2012, Hugo Queirós has been living in Bern, Switzerland, where he finished a Master’s degree in specialized bass clarinet performance at the Bern Music Academy with distinction, under the guidance of Ernesto Molinari.
Among the numerous musical events he has participated in, the first prize in the 1st International Bass Clarinet Competition ›Julián Menéndez‹ (Ávila, Spain 2012) and the first prize in the bass clarinet category at the 10th International Clarinet Competition ›Città di Carlino‹ in Italy (2012) stand out. Hugo Queirós was an active participant in the Lucerne Festival Academy (2013, 2014), in the Freiburg Ensemble Academy (2013), in ManiFest Paris at IRCAM (2014), the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music (2014), the Impuls Academy (2015) and many others.
Between 2012 and 2015 Hugo Queirós was sponsored by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
