Alicja Pilarczyk was born in Szczecin, Poland. She studied in Szczecin, Poznań, Warsaw and in Bern with professors such as Henryk Tritt, Tadeusz Gadzina, Patrycja Piekutowska and Bartek Nizioł. During her studies she was influenced by musicians such as Hae Sun Kang, Graeme Jennings, Benjamin Schmid, and Melise Mellinger. She gained experience as an orchestra musician working with Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus (2010-2011), participating in Lucerne Festival Academy in 2013 and being a guest musician in many other orchestras around Europe.
Her big interest is in chamber music. She is one of the founders of the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra in Szczecin, where she worked between 2008 and 2010, and a member of Strings of Birds, a chamber orchestra in Bern. Moreover, she received several prizes at chamber competitions in Poland as part of a violin duo and a guitar duo and gave concerts in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. As an active freelance chamber musician she also had a chance to perform with musicians such as Patrick Demenga, Marco Ylönen, Christian Altenburger, Thomas Fheodoroff and Patrick Jüdt.
As an employee of the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music (2008-2011) Alicja Pilarczyk began to develop great interest in contemporary music and the visual arts. Since then she had a chance to take part in the Warsaw Autumn Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the Kurtág Festival in Bern and the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. She was also a member of Vertigo Ensemble at the Arts Academy in Bern and worked with Ensemble Interface.
Alicja Pilarczyk is interested in cooperating with artists from different fields to create new expressions in music and art. Recently, she has been cooperating with the Academy of Arts in Szczecin, Poland.
