Julio Vico was born in Cádiz in the South of Spain in 1992. At the age of five, he began his musical studies with Itziar Elorza in Cádiz. He studied with Pilar Bilbao (piano) and Sebastián Mariné (New Music) at the Madrid Music Academy (RCSMM), graduating with Bachelor’s degrees in piano performance (with a focus on New Music) and composition. He completed these courses with distinction and won the Academy’s First Prize in 2012 and 2013. He has participated in more than 30 master classes all over the world with artists such as Nikolai Lugansky, Lang Lang, Stephen Kovacevich, Maria João Pires, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alexander Tarakanov, Isaac Berkovich and C. Elton.
From 2010 to 2013 Julio Vico was a member of the Youth Orchestra of Andalucía (OJA). Since 2011 he has been a member of the youth orchestra JORCAM in Madrid and since 2012 pianist of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE, where he has played with the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Academy, and the New Music Academy as a soloist). He has performed at numerous halls and theatres including the Queen Elisabeth Hall (London, as soloist in Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto), the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, the National Auditorium in Madrid (as soloist in Ravel’s Piano Concerto), the Auditorio de Radio-Televisión-Española in Madrid (as soloist in Stravinsky’s Piano Concerto), the Teatros del Canal (Madrid, as soloist), the Auditorio de Zaragoza, Auditorio Infanta Leonor (Jaén), Sala María Cristina (Málaga, as soloist), Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville, as soloist in Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto) and others. He has also performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, George Pehlivanian, José Pablo Pérez and Michael Thomas. Since 2012 he has been the pianist of COMMA, the Spanish Association for New Music).
