Ella Rohwer, Cello

Ella Rohwer, born in Cologne in 1988, began studying the cello at the Rhenish Music School in her hometown at the age of five. At nine, she first participated in the chamber music division of the competition “Jugend musiziert”. This was followed by performances at the Cologne Philharmonie and radio recordings. She subsequently participated in “Jugend musiziert” repeatedly, winning awards on the Federal level. In 2006 she became a junior student of Hans-Christian Schweiker at the Aachen division of the Cologne Academy for Music and Dance, where she also became a regular student in 2007. Ella Rohwer was also a member of the Ensemble for New Music NRS from 2005 to 2009; in 2008 the WDR produced a recording of the ensemble with her as soloist. Her interest in contemporary music was extended during her studies by many performances with the Academy’s ensemble 20/21, which included concerts and recordings for Deutschlandfunk. During the 2011/12 season, Ella Rohwer performed as a soloist for a theatre production of the Bonn Theatre. Her passion for music is also passed on as a teacher; for example, she is a docent for New Music at the European Academy of Music and the Performing Arts. In 2012 Ella Rohwer received her diploma with distinction and subsequently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme in the master class of Christoph Richter at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Furthermore, Ella Rohwer has participated in international master classes with David Geringas, Wen Sinn Yang, Wolfgang Böttcher, Miklós Perényi, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, Jens Peter Maintz and Gerhard Mantel, and in chamber music courses with Ida Bieler and Michael Denhoff.
