Gilles Grimaître, Piano

Gilles Grimaître, born in Geneva in 1988, began to study piano at the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze (IJD) in 1998. He also studied improvisation and took an avid interest in composition and contemporary music. He won many improvisation competitions and in 2006 received the first prize of the contemporary music competition organized by the IJD in memory of pianist Claude Helffer. After finishing his high school diploma, he entered the Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB) where he continued his musical training with Pierre Sublet. He also studied the organ with Pascale Van Coppenolle and composition with Xavier Dayer. In 2013 he received his Master Performance diploma with distinction. Gilles Grimaître worked with personalities such as Stefano Gervasoni, Klaus Huber, Heinz Holliger, Ondrej Adámek, Michel Dalberto, François-Xavier Roth, Pablo Heras-Casado and Clement Power. In 2012 he took part of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, conducted by Peter Eövtös. He specializes in the accompaniment, in particular with vocalists, and plays with many jazz, rock and experimental bands. He’s also a member of the Ensemble Lemniscate in Basel. In 2010 he won the scholarship of the Marescotti's foundation in Geneva and the scholarship of the Gabriele De Agostini’s foundation in 2012.
