Rho-Mei YU was born in Taiwan in 1982. She started playing piano at the age of five, and studying percussion with Jin-Hsian Huang and Jir-Huei Chen since the age of twelve. After receiving the bachelor of music education degree from the National Taipei University of Education, she moved to France to study with percussionist Philippe Spiesser at the Reginal Conservatory of Music in Perpignan in 2005, and with Christophe Bredeloup at the Reginal Conservatory of Music in Boulogne-Billancourt in 2006 where she received the “Diplôme d’Etude Musique avec l’unanimite”. She then continued the Master of interpretation of art degree at the “Haute Ecole de Musique “in Geneva, Switzerland in 2008, where she studied percussion with Yves Brustaux, Philippe Mace, Christophe Delannoy, Pascal Pons, Alexandre Babel and tablas with Claude Gastaldin.
As a percussionist, Rho-Mei has performed with Ensemble 1002, quartet Mah-Jongg (Taiwan), Studio Asnier (Paris), and participated in Festival l’Initeraire III (Paris) in 2007. She is also the founder of Duo Bubble. Recently she has performed at the Festeval Jardin Musicaux (Switzerland).
