Marie Schmit, Cello

Marie Schmit was born in 1983 and studied Violoncello in France and Germany. She graduated at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, where she studied with Adrianna Contino. In 2010/11, she will broaden her experiences and abilities as a scholarship holder of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. Additionally, she is going to study baroque cello at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt with Kristin von der Golz.

Marie Schmit attended various mastercourses, with Janos Starker, Anner Bylsma, the Ensemble Recherche and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, among others. She also took part in the Luzern Festival within the scope of the Orchestra Academy under Pierre Boulez, as well as in the Klangspuren Festival in the scope of the International Ensemble Modern Academy.

She is regularly performing in France and Germany as a chamber musicion with the trio Arabesque and the Freiburg-based ensembles Holst Sinfonietta and Alarm.

In the course of her studies, Marie Schmit developed a strong interest in free improvisation and music theatre. She is also involved in the group Tinta Roja, with which she performs tango music.
