Paul Hübner was born in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany in 1985. He studied trumpet under Malte Burba at the Academy of Music in Mainz from 2005 to 2009. As a musician, he has concentrated particularly on new and experimental music, and has given solo and chamber music concerts in Germany and abroad, e.g., at the Kunstfest Weimar, Festival Rümlingen, Darmstadt New Music Days, Warsaw Autumn, “sounds new” and the Musica Viva Festival in Munich.
In 2007 and 2009 he participated in the Ensemble Academy at the Klangforum Vienna and as a guest at the Festival Klangspuren Schwaz as part of the International Ensemble Modern Academy under the guidance of Michael Gielen. He was a scholarship holder at the Lucerne Festival Academy 2008 under the artistic direction of Pierre Boulez.
Hübner actively collaborates with composers of his generation on new works for the trumpet and intensively explores the possibilities of the trumpet in his own compositions and improvisations.
Paul Hübner is winner of several national and international competitions, such as the International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Cracow, and scholarship winner of the Rhineland-Palatinate Initiative for the Future (ZIRP) in 2008.
