As part of the Tokyo Wonder Site Festival, IEMA is offering master classes for Japanese instrumentalists and composers under the guidance of members of the Ensemble Modern. The aim of the courses is to establish an interactive forum for New Music and the challenges this music poses for its performers. The core curriculum focuses on contemporary notation, interpretation techniques and methods, so that knowledge of and experience with New Music can be passed on to the younger generation. The festival courses pay particular attention to traditional and modern music from Japan and the Asian world. Lectures and symposia on selected topics complete the programme.
Previous composers in residence have included major contemporary composers such as Hanspeter Kyburz, Pascal Dusapin and Stefan Asbury.
