The Paxos Spring Festival was established in 1986 with the declared aim of enabling both participants and visitors to experience a wide range of chamber music. Since 2004, the Paxos Spring Festival has cooperated with IEMA, offering high-quality courses designed to train outstanding Greek students and aspiring young musicians in the performance practice of 20th and 21st century music. At the same time, the festival organisers also wish to see these works performed more frequently in Greece. The full-day study sessions, public and non-public rehearsals take place in Paxos. Works that have been rehearsed and performed during the festival are repeated again during the following winter as part of a series of concerts at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.
This extended collaboration has also led to the formation of an ensemble for contemporary music in Greece: the Ergon Ensemble.
