klangspuren Schwaz

Since 2004, the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie has offered master classes at the annual Klangspuren Festival in Schwaz, Austria. Since its founding in 1994, the festival has become one of the largest and most important music festivals in Austria focussing on contemporary music. Today, the original concept – to provide a professional and expandable platform for contemporary, living music in the western part of Austria and to present the origins and the pioneering spirit of this new music – is still the cornerstone of the programme design. The Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie master classes are one of the festival’s most successful and important projects.

With members of the Ensemble Modern as tutors and renowned composers (e.g. Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtág, Wolfgang Rihm, Michael Gielen, Steve Reich, Johannes Maria Staud, Martin Matalon, George Benjamin, Unsuk Chin, Hans Zender, Wolfgang Mitterer and Hans Abrahamsen as »composers-in-residence«, musicians of the next generation can be sure that these master classes are an intense and challenging experience, where music from the 20th and 21st century is studied and performed within the framework of the festival.
